DONG Energy is focused on transforming the energy system to more renewable and sustainable energy. The company installed offshore wind turbine no. 1,000 in autumn 2016 and was the first company to reach that milestone. Wind Power is by far the largest part of DONG Energy with close to 80% of the invested capital. Since 2006, DONG Energy has reduced CO2 emissions from power and heat generation by 52% and reduced coal consumption by 73%.

DONG Energy consists of four business units; Wind Power, Bioenergy & Thermal Power, Distribution & Customer Solutions and Oil & Gas. Wind Power which has 1.800 employees is the world’s largest developer and operator of offshore wind power using unique knowledge in all phases of wind turbine projects. During the last 20 years, DONG Energy has developed and constructed the largest portfolio of offshore wind farms in Northern Europe, and the area is expanding with international activities in the US and Asia-Pacific.

Wind Power's Strategy department serves as an inhouse consultancy responsible for the business unit strategy, the market outlook and for running strategic projects across the business unit. The Strategy department works closely with Wind Power´s executive management to set future direction and identify challenges and business opportunities. As Senior Strategy Associate you will join a high-performing and dynamic team of currently 6 highly skilled employees working with strategic projects in a fast-paced environment.

In your daily work, you will typically run one or more strategic projects heavily influenced by a growth scenario as well asperforming ad hoc tasks requested by management. The position will provide you with a steep learning curve where you will further develop and apply your strategic mindset, consultant toolbox and project manager skills. As part of your development, you will also be provided with training, feedback and coaching to further develop your career and move up the ladder within the Strategy department or senior positions in the organization. The position reports to Head of Strategy, Wind Power.

Key responsibility areas for the position are described below: 

·        Define, lead, run and track strategic projects where you, together with your team, gather and analyze data, conduct problem-solving as well as building top-down storylines – examples of projects could be: Market opportunities, Digitalization strategy, Commercial assessment of new technology, M&A

·        Develop strategic recommendations based on deep analytics and a clear thought process

·        Responsibility for ad hoc requests from senior management; presentations, analysis and deep dives in specific topics

·        Be part of the annual strategy process to reaffirm or change the direction for Wind Power7

·        Monitor, analyze and conclude on market trends, innovation and competition across the offshore wind sector and the energy sector in general

·        Injecting outside thinking and push the ambitions for the businesses strategies

·        Actively take part in the coaching and development of junior team members

·        Liaise with Group Strategy & other strategy Departments in DONG Energy

Location of the position is DONG Energy´s headquarters in Gentofte in the Greater Copenhagen area. Travel activity in the job is estimated to 15-25 days a year, mainly to offices in London, Hamburg etc..

Candidate Profile

As the ideal candidate, you have the following education, experience and skills:


     A master's degree in business administration, economics, finance or engineering

     1½-4 years of experience from a management consultancy firm or at least 2-5 years of experience from similar inhouse strategy teams, Executive Assistant positions etc.

     A good “strategy toolbox” and having worked with typical strategy areas

     Experienced with support and presentations on executive management level

     Super user of Microsoft Office, in particular Excel and PowerPoint

     Speak and write English fluently

The position also offers good opportunities for participation in talent program, collaboration with top tier consulting firms etc. The compensation and benefits package will besides a fixed salary include e.g. 10% company paid pension scheme, 3% vacation allowance, health insurance and 7 weeks’ vacation (of which 10 is “additional holidays”.
